Give Your Nails a Pin-Up Makeover

Your pin-up look isn’t complete without a classic 40’s inspired manicure. Deep reds, and half moons are the name of the game. Check out this easy-to-follow manicure photo tutorial to complete your look.

Step 1) Purchase binder paper hole reinforcements such as: Avery Hole Reinforcements

Can be purchased online at eBay for $2.84 with FREE shipping by clicking HERE

Or at your local office supply store

Step 2) Paint your nails any base color. Our favorites: gold, white, silver, black

Allow nails to fully dry before proceeding to next step!

(Neat trick to speed up drying process: run painted nails under cold water)

Step 3) Place the Hole Reinforcement stickers over base of nails

Step 4) Paint secondary color over the top of the sticker & top half of your nails. Our favorite secondary colors: red, navy, white, gold, black, pink

Allow nails to fully dry!

Step 5) Remove stickers slowly, apply clear coat,  & enjoy your beautiful half moon vintage manicure!

Six Reasons Why We Love Vintage & Vintage-Inspired Clothing

  1. Vintage Clothing Was Made to Last. Unlike the mass-produced garments sold in today’s big box stores, vintage clothing was made to last longer than simply a few wears. Pink Bow City has vintage inspired items handmade by our designers, they can even be specified to your measurements and color choice! Click here to browse our favorite.
  2. The Thrill of the Hunt: Nothing is more thrilling to vintage and thrift lovers than the hunt itself. Finding a garment              that fits perfectly to your body and your unique style is priceless.
  3. We Can’t Get Enough of the History! We love the classic feminine look across the 30s, 40s, and 50s, but perhaps even more intriguing is the meaning behind each look, from the style itself right down to the materials used.
  4. Vintage and Vintage-Inspired Looks are Eco-Friendly and Oh-So-Chic!  Hunting for vintage items means we’re making a choice to give previously used items a new home and Pink Bow City’s designers create handmade items, right here in the USA or Europe – so you can rest assured your clothing was created in an ethical environment.
  5. Up-cycling is Fun! We love finding unique one-of-a-kind items and adding our own personal flair!  Whether you’re pairing your favorite classic vintage pencil skirt with a more modern tank and cardigan, or wearing a vintage-inspired blouse with a pair of jeans- the possibilities are endless and always hint at a sense of timelessness.
  6.  Pin-up is Pretty! We love vintage, and to many of us pin-up is a celebration of classic femininity and above all, strength. Pin-up is one of our ABSOLUTE favorite styles throughout history <3

There you have it. Six really good reasons why we love vintage and vintage-inspired looks!

We are launching our BRAND NEW Pink Bow CIty  line next month & we are going to be doing quite a few shoots over the next few weeks in preparation of our new items that will be for sale starting mid July!

We decided to photograph our new pinup swimsuits on the beach, unfortunately the weather didn’t want to cooperate! It was EXTREMELY windy & kind of cold. We finished up the shoot just before the rain started again though!

We worked with two lovely models Kalyenne & Sunny-Marie we will post the finished results from our shoot in our lookbook which can be viewed by clicking HERE

Behind the scenes of the “Pink Bow City” Photo Shoot

Today we worked on creating the Pink Bow City Photo Shoot!

We are planning to use an image as the new homepage for Pinkbowcity.com!

Peter Jamus Photography – more of his images can be seen here: http://peterjamus.com/personal/stolen-moments/

The idea came from a photo I originally fell in love with that my boyfriend gave me of Zoe Mcconnell Photography.

It is the adorable girl ( photo shown below) with the giant bow on her head. I wanted to do an implied nude (not showing much of anything) to give a very high fashion look to the shoot. Our model Ashley Rae did a great job!  Can’t wait to see the edited images! Check out some sneak peek photos below:

Shanna Allyn Photography – Strange & Beautiful

Shanna Allyn is a Minneapolis based multimedia artist.

She grew up in Wisconsin and lived in New York City for 4 years working as an editor before locating to Minneapolis to pursue her passion in the arts.  As a photographer, she portrays unusual and dynamic portraits of women. Bringing taboo issues to the forefront while concentrating on imperfection & raw natural inner beauty.   Her collection of strange & beautiful portraits showcases a twisted metamorphosis of a woman, sexuality, beauty versus the beast, language barriers, crossing genders and the notion of what is considered beautiful.  She is inspired by beauty, nature, bold colors and raw form.

“There is something strange and beautiful about this life.  Some destroy beauty while others try to restore it, she says.”

“Shanna Allyn’s photos are sometimes strange, but always beautiful.  She has a way of bringing you into her world of strangeness all while having a chuckle with her photography that speaks for itself.” —Twin Cities Metro

“Multimedia artist Shanna Allyn makes ladies pretty and odd.”  Frankie magazine

Her work is featured in January’s edition of METRO Magazine and is featured in the February-March issue of Frankie.

We find her photos: strange, captivating, feminine & unique. What do you think??

Has anyone else noticed the HUGE trend in celebrity pin up looks?!

To be honest, I don’t usually care how celebrities dress on a conscience level. I usually don’t even care to stay updated on the celebrity buzz, but I can’t help but notice the HUGE trend in celebrities rocking the pin up look! I thought we should bring it up and see what our fans have to say! Who do you think pulls it off the best?

Of course, Katy Perry loves to rock the Pin Up Girl look:

& Christina Aguilera:

& the lovely Dita Von Teese:

& Gwen Stefani:

Scarlett Johansson:

But even celebrities you wouldn’t expect!

Behind the Scenes of the “Bows in Bubbles” & “Smoke bombs in Frozen Waterfall Cave” Photoshoot

Katie Essick photography seen here:

katieessick.tumblr.com

We started the day off pampering our model Kenzie Delalley in our “Bows in Bubbles” shoot. We filled up the bath to the brim with bubbles we made from dish soap & set pink silk bows on top of the bubbles for a whimsical ultra girly effect. We then had Katie’s friend assist in blowing bubbles in the tup with a bubble wand. We think it turned out cute, comment on this post & let us know what you think! You can see the final photo results here: http://pinkbowcity.com/lookbook/pink-bow-filled-bubble-bath/

We then made Kenzie leave the warm tub to trek out into the cold to Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, MN. The falls were frozen so we hiked up a steep heal to shoot from behind the frozen waterfall in the cave. It was scary & we didn’t want to get dirty, but with the help of some nice boys (who probably didn’t mind helping out a couple of cute girls) we finally made it up to the cave. We then set off blue, purple, pink, yellow & white smoke bombs inside of the cave for this dramatic effect:

Me fixing Kenzie’s Hair:

Be careful, the ice was slippery in heels!

The frozen waterfall, so pretty! :
